Why It’s Taken So Long to Set Up My Workshop

As much as I’d love to say my workshop is up and running (and the resin casting part is), the truth is it’s been quite a journey to get to that point, and I’m not there yet. For anyone who’s been following along, I wanted to give an update on where things stand and why it’s taken me so long.

The main reason? Electric. When I moved into my current home, the garage—which is destined to become my workshop—didn’t have the necessary electrical setup to support all the tools and equipment I use. Getting electric to the garage has been a much bigger hurdle than I anticipated. From planning and permits to budgeting and scheduling, it’s been a slow-moving process. The quotes I've received have been sky high and selling our old house has been an adventure to say the least, creating one of the hurdles to getting electric.

On top of that, my full-time teaching job keeps me on my toes. Between lesson planning, grading, and classroom activities, my weekdays are often spoken for. Add in other commitments—such as prepping for shows, working on product development, working other jobs, and managing life’s curveballs—and it’s clear why my evenings and weekends haven’t been as productive in the shop setup department as I’d hoped.

But there’s light at the end of the tunnel! The sale of my old house is just about finalized 🤞🏻, which means I’ll soon have the financial flexibility to get electric installed in the shop. With that critical piece of the puzzle in place, I can finally start making real progress toward setting up a functional workspace.

I’m optimistic that, with some dedicated effort, I’ll have my shop ready to go soon. Once it’s set up, I’ll be able to dive back into creating, experimenting, and producing the pieces I love to make. Thank you for your patience and support as I work through this transition—it means the world to me!

Stay tuned for more updates, and hopefully, the next one will feature photos of a workshop that’s finally coming to life.
