My Favorite Resin Mixes and the Stories Behind Them

My Favorite Resin Mixes and the Stories Behind Them

At Cross Cut Creations, every resin mix has a purpose, a memory, or a moment behind it. Some were born from experimentation, others from deeply personal experiences, and a few have grown into community favorites over time. Today, I’m sharing the stories behind four of my favorite resin mixes — Rubber City Salute, Miracle Maker, Mossy Forest, and Ametrine — and why they hold such a special place in my shop.

These mixes aren’t just colors in a mold. They’re pieces of my history, my gratitude, and my creative journey.

Rubber City Salute: A Tribute to Akron’s Heartbeat

Rubber City Salute is more than a resin mix — it’s a nod to where I spent a lot of time and a tribute to the Akron RubberDucks, the city’s beloved AA baseball team. They play right in downtown Akron, and that ballpark is woven into my childhood in a way most people wouldn’t expect.

As a kid, I spent time in the hospital undergoing shunt revision surgery. From my hospital room window, I watched the ballpark being built piece by piece. After the park was built, I spent years going to games and ultimately (even to this day), working as an usher there. It became a symbol of progress, resilience, and the idea that something exciting was waiting on the other side of a hard season. Rubber City Salute captures that spirit with bold, energetic colors that reflect Akron’s grit and personality.

For turners who love working with resin blanks that carry meaning, this mix is a hometown celebration poured into every swirl.

Miracle Maker: A Blank With a Purpose

Miracle Maker is the most personal mix I’ve ever created. When I was born, I faced a series of serious health challenges, including a brain bleed that should have left me dependent on others for life. But the doctors at Akron Children’s Hospital didn’t give up. Because of their care, I grew into a fully functioning, independent adult — something that still feels like a miracle.

This mix is my way of giving back. For every Miracle Maker blank sold, $1.00 is donated to Akron Children’s Hospital.

The colors in this mix are bright, hopeful, and full of movement — a visual reminder of the second chance I was given and the incredible work the hospital continues to do for families every day. Miracle Maker isn’t just a resin blank; it’s a way for the maker community to join me in supporting a cause that changed my life.

Mossy Forest: The Beginning of It All

Mossy Forest will always be one of my favorites because it represents where my resin journey truly began. The colors in this mix were part of the very first resin block I ever poured. At the time, I didn’t have a name for it — I was just experimenting, learning, and discovering what resin could do.

Only later did I realize how much this mix symbolized: growth, exploration, and the spark that eventually became Cross Cut Creations. The earthy greens and natural tones feel grounded and organic, making it a perfect choice for turners who love nature‑inspired projects.

Every time I pour Mossy Forest, I’m reminded of how far this craft has taken me.

Ametrine: Bold Contrast and Vibrant Swirls

Some mixes earn their place as favorites simply because they’re stunning — and Ametrine is one of those. Inspired by the gemstone of the same name, this mix is all about contrast. The vibrant purples and oranges collide in dramatic swirls that make every blank unique.

Ametrine is eye‑catching on the lathe and even more impressive in a finished pen or turning project. If you love resin blanks with bold personality and high visual impact, this mix delivers every time.

Why These Mixes Matter

Each of these resin mixes tells a different part of my story — from childhood memories and medical miracles to creative beginnings and artistic expression. They’ve become customer favorites not just because of their colors, but because of the meaning behind them.

Whether you’re a pen turner, a knife maker, or a resin enthusiast looking for materials with heart, these mixes offer something special.

If you’re ready to explore these favorites or see what’s new in the shop, keep an eye on upcoming restocks and new drops. There’s always something fresh curing in the molds.
